Luckily, the vast majority of expatriates never have to deal directly with the Russian tax authorities, as not even income tax returns are required in most cases. If you do need to contact the Russian tax authorities, for example in the case of self-employment income or an exception request based on a tax treaty, you should not attempt to contact them on your own, unless you speak fluent Russian and have an understanding of Russian tax law. It is highly advisable to use a tax expert for this purpose.
Your employer should be able to recommend reliable tax advisors and will likely have contracts with large corporate tax advisors, such as Deloitte, KPMG or Ernst & Young.
