Kitchen and Dining Equipment Guide
There is one chain of kitchen supply stores, Fork, which is an upscale store that has everything from Italian stovetop espresso makers, to Japanese knives, to French cast iron cookware. While prices are very high, the quality is better than most of the Argentine brands of cooking and dining supplies. You can also find fine crystal and linen at these stores. Besides this chain, there are hundreds of small kitchen supply stores all over the city. If you’re adventurous, check out Avenida Jujuy south of San Juan (accessible via the Humberto Primo stop on the H Line of the Subte). Here you’ll find several blocks of specialty kitchenware shops that are small, crammed, and stocked to the ceiling. You can find just about anything that you need, but be wary of the quality.
Unique kitchen supplies can also be found at any of the city’s flea markets or street fairs, especially the antiques market off of Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo that takes place every Sunday. You can find old copper pots and pans, unique flatware and crystal, as well as old stone door knobs and a plethora of other things like linen and platters. Be ready to haggle a bit, as prices are higher at the Sunday market than they would be in the individual antique shops during the week, but it’s a great place to find unique things.
