Beijing Worship Guide

Due to government regulations, certain worship venues are only open to foreign passport holders. Chinese nationals are not allowed to participate in worship services held by foreign entities, therefore, passports/foreign IDs are checked at the door as part of these government regulations.

Interdenominational

The largest interdenominational congregation in Beijing, this church offers regular services in English, Mandarin, and six other languages. Ministry teams and youth groups make this massive church feel like a family. Services are held in several locations throughout the city. The main service is held at the 21st Century Theater. Interdenominational congregation with traditionally structured worship. Meets Sunday mornings at 10 am at the Capital Club Athletic Center. Choir practice is at 9 am, and following services there is a fellowship gathering and coffee hour. In accordance with PRC law, only foreign passport holders are allowed to attend services and meetings.

Catholic

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin

Commonly known as South Church (Nantang Church), this government-run Catholic church is home to Beijing’s bishop. Sunday Masses are 6 a.m. (Latin), 7 and 8 a.m. (Chinese), and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (English). Call to confirm service times.

Jewish

This group caters to the religious needs of the more than 800 Jews living in Beijing and the thousands passing through each year with services like classes for both children and adults, Hebrew school, monthly women’s Rosh Chodesh groups, Bar and Bat Mitzvah lessons and activities for the Jewish holidays.

Open Regular Shabbat Friday Nights and Holidays
This Jewish community extends an open invitation to anyone wanting to participate in a night of Jewish prayer and meals. Services are Reconstructionist, but Jews of any persuasion are welcome. There’s also a Hebrew school for those looking to foster the little one’s connection to their Jewish faith.

Muslim

This 6000 sq. meter mosque is the city’s largest and oldest. The prayer hall and other areas are restricted to Muslims only, but visitors can tour and observe the convergence of Chinese and Islamic influences. Shorts and skirts are not allowed.
