Many bank holidays are observed by banks, public offices and schools but not by the general public as a whole. It is the employer’s discretion to observe certain holidays, such as Columbus Day. Most employers give the Friday off if a holiday falls on Saturday and Monday off if a holiday falls on Sunday; however this is only a general guideline. Please check with your employer.
Legal national holidays are for everyone and are as follows:
2021
- New Years Day – January 1 – First day of the new year.
- Martin L King’s Birthday – 3rd Monday in January – Monday, January 17 – In celebration of the civil rights leader.
- President’s Day – 3rd Monday in February – Monday, February 21 – To honor the President.
- Memorial Day – Last Monday in May – Monday, May 30- Remembering the military dead of recent wars.
- Independence Day – July 4 – Monday, July 4 – Celebration of the independence from British rule.
- Labor Day – 1st Monday in September – Monday, September 5 – In honor of all workers.
- Veteran’s Day – November 11- Day of honoring alive veterans from all recent wars.
- Thanksgiving Day – 4th Thursday in November, many companies also take the Friday after off, as well – Thursday, November 24 – Two-day food and family gathering that commemorates a feast held in 1621 by the pilgrims and the Native Americans.
- Christmas Day – December 25 – Sunday, December 25 – Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ.
