You do not need to register as a foreign resident or visitor to in Hanoi, but if you reside long-term and rent a house or apartment your landlord will have you fill out a foreign resident form that includes a copy of your passport. It is always a good idea to register with your home country’s embassy in Hanoi (see our Foreign Embassies in the City section).
