It is very easy to ride a bicycle in Chicago, especially along the lake shore. There are also bike trails all around the city. You can put your bike on CTA buses and trains for free.
To get a good overview about how to bike in Chicago, we advise you to check the Chicago Bike Program website: http://www.chicagobikes.org/ On this website you can view the map of the Chicago bike lanes.
Another good resource is the MacDonald’s Cycle Center located at 239 East Randolph Street in Millenium Park (http://www.chicagobikestation.com/) where you can rent bikes, park your bike, and make it repair. Showers and lockers are available. They also have a Chicago bike map for free.
Chicago Water Taxi operates on the Chicago River with four stops: Madison Street, Lasalle/Clark, Michigan Avenue, Chinatown. The ticket office is located at 400 North Michigan Avenue. Kiosks where you can buy tickets are located at the Madison Street dock and the Michigan Avenue dock. But be aware this is mainly for tourists. People do not typically use it to commute.
