Expatriate entrepreneurs living in Bahrain have welcomed news that the government will extend a freeze on levies on foreigners by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).
The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), who have been lobbying for a freeze on the applicable fees on the basis that such measures were required to reduce the impact of the economic crisis on the private sector, welcomed the news.
The cabinet revealed on Sunday that they would extend the freeze on the levy until April 2012 in order to help the business community to recover from the economic issues that have arisen as a result of the recent political unrest in the region.
The aim is to assess their impact on the different economic sectors in Bahrain. “The decision to extend the freeze on the labour fees levied by LMRA will substantially contribute to reducing the effects of the recent incidents in Bahrain on the economy,” Essam Abdullah Fakhro, BCCI Chairman, revealed in an interview with a Bahrain News Agency.
