Remember that most stores in Madrid close at mid-day. Store hours vary, but the standard shopping schedule is from 10:00AM-2:00PM & 5:00PM to 8:00PM.
If you ever need supplies after closing hours, Madrid is littered with small convenience shops commonly known as “chinos” because the majority of them are owned by Chinese immigrants. These stores tend to open from about 11:00AM to 12:00AM. They tend to be slightly more expensive and have a far smaller selection, but they are convenient in a pinch.
