Canadian Super Visa Proves to be Super Popular

Many people put off a move abroad because it means leaving their loved ones behind. However, the Canadian government’s super visa allows families to remain together via Parent and Grandparent super visas and recent figures indicate that uptake of the scheme has reached an all-time high.

Since its launch in 2011 over 11,500 individuals have successfully been issued with the super visas and more than 1,000 of these visas are issued on a monthly basis. At present, while applications for the visas are high, so are the approval rates, with an estimated 86% of applicants receiving the visa they applied for.

Discussing the popularity of the scheme, citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism minister Jason Kenney, commented: “The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa provides families with flexibility, and it is clearly growing in popularity.

“I am pleased to see that more and more parents and grandparents are getting the opportunity to spend longer periods of time with their loved ones in Canada.”

The Super Visa allows the parents and grandparents of expatriates the right to enter Canada multiple times for up to ten years. Successful applicants can remain in Canada for up to 24 months at a time and can travel to and from the country without undergoing complicated immigration procedures.

In order to qualify for a Super Visa, applicants must be able to demonstrate that the earnings of their children or grandchildren exceed the earnings threshold. In addition, they must take out health insurance with a Canadian insurance provider, pass an immigration medical examination and provide a letter of invitation from the child or grandchild who resides in Canada.

Recent figures issued by the Canadian immigration authorities indicate that growing numbers of expatriates living in the country and coming from China. In 2012 permanent residency was granted to 32,990 Chinese expats.
